George Watsky, California’s sensational alternative hip hop, slam poetry, and spoken word artist is bringing his signature sounds to Ogden Theater!

George Virden Watsky was born in San Francisco in 1986 and he’s a hip hop artist, author, and poet. He began his poetic journey by doing slam poetry (a competition at which poets read or recite original work) at the age of 15. In 2006 he appeared on the spoken word poetry TV series Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry. The same year, he also became the Youth Speaks Grand Slam Poetry Champion and the Brave New Voices International Poetry Slam Champions. 3 years later he made his musical debut by releasing a 15 track hip hop album titled Watsky. The following year, he released his first extended play (Guilty Pleasures) and it was full of mashups between tracks from his first album and popular songs. He went on to have a stellar career with 4 more studio albums, 3 more extended plays, 2 live albums, and 8 singles. He’s collaborated with artists such as Anderson Paak, Kate Nash, Julia Nunes, Chaos Chaos, Mal Devisa, Danny McClain, Camila Recchio, Chinaka Hodge, Dylan Saunders, Lisa Vitale and many more. He’s also appeared on season 4 of the TV sitcom Arrested Development.
