Thundercat, California’s sensational multi genre artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Ogden Theater!
Thundercat (birth name Stephen Bruner) was born in Los Angeles in 1984 and is a bass guitarist, producer, and singer. He began his musical journey by playing bass at a young age and he went on to join crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies (replacing its former bass player Josh Paul). His musical style can be best described as a blend of soul, jazz fusion (a genre that developed in the late 1960s when musicians combined aspects of jazz harmony and improvisation with styles such as funk, rock, rhythm and blues, and Latin jazz), funk, and electronic music. He’s had a stellar career with 3 solo albums and he’s worked on albums by many renowned artists and bands such as Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Flying Lotus, Kirk Knight, Taylor McFerrin, Erykah Badu, Kimbra, Childish Gambino, Sa-Ra Creative Partners, Mac Miller, Vic Mensa, Suicidal Tendencies, Keziah Jones, Bilal, Young Jazz Giants, Terrace Martin, and Ty Dolla Sign. He won a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his work on the track "These Walls" from Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed and Platinum selling album, To Pimp a Butterfly. His latest solo album (Drunk) comes out on February 24, 2017.
