The California Honeydrops, California’s sensational blues artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Ogden Theater!
The California Honeydrops was founded in Oakland in 2007 by guitarist and trumpeter Lech Wierzynkski and drummer Ben Malament. They started busking on the streets of San Francisco’s Bay Area and it wasn’t long before they’d gathered a following of passionate local fans. They added Johnny Bones (tenor sax and clarinet), Lorenzo Loera (keyboards), and Beau Bradbury (bass) to the line up and set off on their first European tour. They played at the Rawa Blues Festival (Katowice, Poland) and also in Germany and The Netherlands. Their musical style is best described as a blend of Bay Area R&B, funk, Southern soul (a type of soul music that combines both 12 bar and jump blues, country, early rock and roll, and has a strong gospel influence from the sounds of Southern African-American churches), Delta blues (an early blues style - originating in the Mississippi Delta and regarded as a regional variant of country blues - featuring guitar, harmonica, and slide guitar as its main instruments), and roots revival. They’ve had a stellar career with 6 studio albums and they’ve been the opening act for many renowned artists such as B.B. King, Dr. John, Buddy Guy, and Allen Toussaint. They’ve also performed at the Monterey Jazz, High Sierra, and Outside Lands music festivals.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to blues music!
