María Natalia Lafourcade Silva was born in Coatepec (Mexico) in 1984 and is a singer and songwriter. Her musical style is best described as a blend of Latin pop, rock en español (a term used widely in the English-speaking world to refer any kind of rock music featuring Spanish vocals), pop rock (a genre that originated in the 1950s, influenced by the beat, arrangements, and style of rock and roll but with a greater emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft), folk, alternative Latin, and bossa nova (a genre of Brazilian music – developed in the 1950s and 1960s – featuring the classical guitar, drums and percussion, along with lyrical themes of women, love, longing, homesickness, and nature). She’s had a stellar career with 7 studio albums and she’s received many accolades including a Grammy Award (for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album) and 8 Latin Grammy Awards (for Best Rock Album by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Long Form Music Video, Best Engineered Album, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Alternative Song, and 2 for Best Alternative Music Album). She’s also been nominated for 2 more Grammy Award (for Best Latin Pop Album).
