Sensational electropop and alternative R&B artists MØ and Cashmere Cat are bringing their signature sounds to the Ogden Theater!
MØ (birth name Karen Marie Aagaard Ørsted Andersen) was born in Odense (Denmark) in 1988 and her stage name, besides being a short-form of her middle and last names, means ‘virgin’ or ‘maiden’ in Danish. She took an interest in music when she got a Spice Girls CD when she was 10 years old. As she became a teenager her interests changed to punk music and anti-fascist movements and she started to get influenced by bands such as Black Flag, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She was especially influenced by American rock band Sonic Youth and considers its bassist, vocalist, and guitarist Kim Gordon as a “big hero and role model”. British music magazine NME describes her sound as “electro music with guts” and likens it to a cross between Siouxsie Sioux and Janet Jackson. She released her debut EP (Bikini Daze) in 2013 and it hit #11 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Her debut album (No Mythologies to Follow) was released a year later and it peaked at #2 on the Danish charts and went on to achieve Gold status. The album's success led to her winning 4 Danish Music Awards for New Danish Name, Danish Soloist, Danish Music Video, and Danish Album.
