Medeski, Martin and Wood, New York's sensational jazz fusion artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Ogden Theater!
Medeski, Martin and Wood was formed in Brooklyn in 1991 by John Medeski (keyboards), Billy Martin (drums), and Chris Wood (bass). Their musical style is best described as a blend of jazz funk (a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat/groove, electrified sounds, and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers), post bop (a modern jazz style that continues the distinguishing characteristics that separate jazz from the world of pop and rock), electric jazz (a genre that developed in the late 1960s when many jazz musicians began experimenting with electric instruments and amplified sound for the first time, as well as electronic effects and synthesizers), avant garde jazz (a genre that differs from free jazz in that it has more structure in the ensembles although the individual improvisations are generally just as free of conventional rules), and soul jazz (a style of jazz with strong influences from blues, soul, gospel, and rhythm and blues). They’ve had a stellar career with 21 studio albums, 2 compilation albums, 2 extended plays, 1 video album, and they've collaborated with renowned artists such as jazz-rock guitarist John Scofield, guitarist and composer Nels Cline, and blues/rock singer-songwriter and guitarist Chris Whitley.
