Kodak Black, Florida’s sensational hip hop artist is bringing his signature rhymes to the Ogden Theater!
Kodak Black (birth name Dieuson Octave) was born in Pompano Beach in 1997 is a rapper and songwriter. His stage name is derived from his nickname (Black) and he first started using it when he signed up for an Instagram account. He began his rap journey at the age of 12 by joining the rap group Brutal Youngnz. He then joined another rap group (The Kolyons) and went on to start his solo career in 2013 with his debut mix tape, Project Baby. His musical style can be best described as a blend of hip hop and trap (a subgenre of Southern hip hop that originated in the 1990s and is characterized by its ominous lyrics, heavy kick drums from a Roland TR 808 synthesizer, double time division hi hats, layered synthesizers, and cinematic strings) music. He cites rapper Lil Boosie as his biggest influence and he started to get mainstream recognition after Canadian rapper Drake posted a video of himself dancing to one of his singles (Skrt). It wasn’t long before he got a record deal and in 2016, he released his fourth mixtape, Lil B.I.G. Pac. It hit #49 on Billboard’s Top R&B and Hip Hop Albums chart and #18 on its Heatseakers Albums chart.
