The band was formed in Melbourne (Victoria, Australia) in 2010 and it consists of Stu Mackenzie (vocals, lead guitar, flute, clarinet, sitar, keyboards, double bass, bass guitar, and zurna), Ambrose Kenny Smith (harmonica, keyboards, synthesizer, organ, vocals, percussion, and guitar), Joey Walker (lead guitar, setar, keyboards, and vocals), Cook Craig (rhythm guitar, keyboards, and vocals), Lucas Skinner (bass guitar and piano), Eric Moore (drums, percussion, management, and theremin), and Michael Cavanagh (drums and percussion) Their musical style is best described as a blend of psychedelic rock (a style of rock music - inspired or influenced by psychedelic culture - that attempts to replicate and enhance the mind altering experiences of psychedelic drugs, most notably LSD, by using novelty recording techniques, electronic instruments or effects), garage rock, acid rock, and progressive rock (a broad subgenre of rock music that grew out of psychedelic bands who abandoned standard traditions in favour of instrumentation and compositional techniques more frequently associated with jazz, folk or classical music). They’ve had a stellar career with 10 studio albums, 2 extended plays, and their latest album (Sketches Of Brunswick East) comes out in the second half of 2017.
