Josh Ritter was born in Moscow (Idaho) in 1976 and is a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and author. His musical style is best described as a blend of contemporary folk (an umbrella term encompassing a wide variety of genres - emerging in the mid 20th century and onwards - which were associated with traditional folk music), country rock (a subgenre of popular music, formed from the fusion of rock and country, developed by rock musicians who started using country themes, vocal styles, and additional instrumentation, most notably, pedal steel guitars), pop, and Americana (contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, blues, roots rock, R&B, folk, and bluegrass, resulting in a distinctive roots oriented sound). He's had a stellar career with 8 studio albums, 5 live albums, 8 extended plays, 16 singles, and his music has also been featured on many compilation/tribute albums such as Sweetheart: Love Songs, 1% For The Planet - The Music, Broken Hearts and Dirty Windows: Songs of John Prine, and The Music Is You: A Tribute to John Denver. He performs with a backing band (The Royal City Band) consisting of Zack Hickman (bass, guitar, tuba, and strings), Sam Kassirer (piano, keyboards, organ,, and accordion), Austin Nevins (guitar, lap steel, and baritone), and Liam Hurley (drums and percussion).
