Jane's Addiction was formed in Los Angeles in 1984 by vocalist Perry Farrell and bass guitarist Eric Avery. The band's name is a reference to Perry's housemate - Jane Bainter - who was the muse and inspiration for their work. The band's been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Perry (lead vocals, guitar, programming, and piano), Dave Navarro (guitar, acoustic guitar, keyboard, and piano), Stephen Perkins (drums, percussion, and steel pan), and Chris Chaney (bass). Over the years, their musical style has spanned many genres such as alternative rock, alternative metal funk metal, neo psychedelia, and psychedelic rock. They’ve had a stellar career with 4 studio albums, 2 live albums, 4 compilation albums, extended plays, 17 singles, 27 music videos, and they're widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in alternative music. They've received many accolades including a MTV Video Music Award (for Best Alternative Video), a NME Award, and 5 Grammy Award nominations (for Best Hard Rock Performance, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group, Best Rock Song, Best Hard Rock Performance, and Best Boxed or Limited Edition). They've also been nominated for a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
