BadBadNotGood, Canada's sensational crossover jazz artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Ogden Theater!
BadBadNotGood (stylized as BADBADNOTGOOD or BBNG) was formed in Toronto in 2010 by Matthew Tavares, Alexander Sowinski, and Chester Hansen. Their musical style is best described as a blend of crossover jazz (a genre that’s rooted in jazz but aims for mainstream popularity by using a lot of improvisation), post bop (a modern jazz style that continues the distinguishing characteristics that separate jazz from the world of pop and rock), jazz funk (a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat/groove, electrified sounds, and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers), alternative R&B, instrumental hip hop, and electro jazz (a variant of jazz fusion that emphasizes synthesizers and hard, funky rhythms). They've had a stellar career with 6 studio albums, 2 live albums, 8 singles, and they've collaborated with Sam Herring, Charlotte Day Wilson, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt, Danny Brown, and Ghostface Killah. They've also produced music for many renowned artists such as JJ Doom, Kaytranada, Freddie Gibbs, Mick Jenkins, Kali Uchis, Hodgy, and Idle Warship, The band currently consists of Matthew (keyboards), Alexander (drums and sampler) , Chester (bass guitar and upright bass), Leland Whitty (saxophone, flute, viola, violin, and guitar), and touring member James Hill (keyboards).
