A Boogie wit da Hoodie (birth name Artist J. Dubose) was born in Highbridge (Bronx) in 1995 and is a rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He began his musical journey by writing rhymes when he was just 12 years old. He said in an interview, “I grew up listening to 50 Cent, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, Kanye West, shit like that. When I was 13, before I got in high school. I was writing mad raps. I didn’t really know if it was good or not so for a year I just held them. When I got in high school I started spittin’ bars.” He released his debut mix tape (titled Artist) as a digital download in 2016 and it hit #31 on Billboard’s Top R&B and Hip Hop Albums chart and #22 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart. His breakthrough came in 2016 when he got to be the opening act for 3 dates on the Summer Sixteen Tour; a co-headlining concert tour by Drake and Future. He’s had a stellar career with 3 mix tapes, 1 extended play, 8 singles, and he’s collaborated with Don Q, DJ SpinKing, Lil Bibby, Kodak Black, and many more.
